Volt Movement was founded by physical therapist and triathlete, Dr. Sam Ray Hegedus.
Dr. Sam Ray Hegedus was born and raised in Durham, where she grew up swimming and running competitively. Sam then moved to Pittsburgh, PA and was a Division 1 collegiate swimmer at Duquesne University. She was the 2016 Atlantic 10 Conference Champion in the 100 freestyle, 100 freestyle Conference Record Holder, Woman Athlete of the Year Nominee, and Scholar All-American. After 4 years of swimming and 1 year of running track, Sam was a Student Assistant Swim Coach for Duquesne for 2 years while finishing her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.
In August of 2018, Sam moved back to Durham and began working at Upright Athlete as a Physical Therapist. She is a Physical Therapist for Team USA Shooting, certified in Trigger Point Dry Needling Level 1, a Rock Steady Boxing Coach, an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer, a Functional Range Conditioning Specialist, and a USA Swimming certified coach.
Sam founded Volt Movement in order to combine her skills as a physical therapist, coach, and athlete to help others maximize their performance and capitalize on their potential as athletes!

"As a seasoned athlete, but a rookie triathlete Sam and Brian at Volt Movement built a 12 week Ironman training program that was not overwhelming, but completely pushed me beyond what I thought I was capable of doing in such a short amount of time. My progression was evident every single week. Whenever I had questions or needed more clarity, Sam was always quick to respond and helped me understand the process. I was held accountable to my workouts and supported along the way, even when frustrated. Although my main race was cancelled this season, Volt encouraged me to keep progressing and I was able to achieve the longest ride of my life (122 miles), complete a 50 mile running challenge in 48 hours, and improve my swim times and distances while becoming more comfortable in the water. Not to mention, I was able to stay injury free as a result of the balanced program made for my ability. I look forward to continuing to work with Volt in preparation for my postponed Ironman 140.6 in August 2021."
